Kinesiology taping has been around for 25 years, but recently gained tremendous exposure after being used on Olympic and other televised professional athletes. The tape can provide structural support to a joint and increase the microcirculation but is most commonly used to improve the neurosensory perception.
Initial training is available at no cost at www.SpiderTechTraining.com by watching the short videos. Additional training is available www.SpiderTechOnline.com or by calling The Vitality Depot at 866-941-8867.
To familiarize you with Spidertech, here are the 12 Principles in Applying Spidertech Tape. (or Click Here to watch the 12 Principles Video.)
1) Skin Preparation – The skin should be clear of hair as well as any creams, lotions, or oils.
2) Skin Condition – The tape should NOT be applied over broken or damaged skin.
3) Tape & Water – Have each Spidertech application fully applied for one hour before engaging in exercise or a shower.
4) Tape & Water II – The tape is water resistant and breathable. Spidertech tape can be worn in the shower, but pat the tape dry instead of rubbing over it with a towel.
5) Length of Wear – Spidertech tape can be worn for up to 5 days.
6) Applying the Base and Adhesion Points – For each section, the beginning and the end portions should be applied without any stretch in the tape. The middle sections can be stretched, but the first and final inch should not be stretched. Do not stretch the tape more than 75%.
7) Keep Adhesive Clean – When handling the tape, avoid touching the adhesive by keeping your fingers only on the paper backing.
8) Removing the Backing – As you peel back the backing, only peel back small portions at a time and allow the tape to contact the skin. After 90% of the tape is applied to the skin, then remove the entire backing.
9) Setting the Adhesive – During the application of each section of the spider, once that section is applied, rub over the tape vigorously to activate the glue. Rub the tape in the direction from the starting point to the end point.
10) Sensory Application Method – Stretch the Muscle but NOT the Tape. This will activate the neuro-sensory in the area.
11) Structural Application Method – Stretch the Tape but NOT the Muscle. This will restrict the range of motion for the body area. For example, if you wanted to restrict the range of the motion in the low back, you would NOT have the person bend forward when applying the tape.
12) Removing the Tape – Peel back the edge of the tape and pull the skin away from the tape rather than pulling the tape away from the skin.
