Taping and Strapping Codes (292XX and 295XX)
Taping or strapping is a procedure used post-operatively or as an initial service to stabilize or protect a fracture, injury, dislocation or to afford comfort to a patient. If the tape is applied for therapeutic reasons and not immobilization, then another code should be selected. This code includes the tape material used in the service, so tape supplies should not be billed separately when using this code. Taping and Strapping codes also include the removal of the tape.
Unlisted Physical Medicine Service (97799)
When taping is applied for therapeutic reasons as part of a treatment regimen, clinics can use the unlisted physical medicine code 97799 and include the appropriate description of services. This is a non-specific code.

Unlisted Supplies and Material (99070)
This miscellaneous code can be used for the taping supplies utilized during an office visit.
E&M (99212) and HCPCS (A4452)
When Evaluation and Management of the established patient is focused and straightforward and involves two of the three areas of History, Examination and Clinical Decision Making and the condition is self-limiting or minor, then the E&M code of 99212 may be used to code for the patient visit. Taping services would be included in the E&M code. Additionally, the HCPCS supply code of A4452 for waterproof tape can also be coded for each 18 square inches of tape used in the procedure, with one unit of A4452 for each 18 square inches of tape.
